AWWA Meter Challenge FAQ’s

What is AWWA Meter Challenge?
AWWA Meter Challenge is a fast-paced competition where contestants assemble a specified water meter from a bucket of parts.

Where is it held?
AWWA Meter Challenge Contests are often held during AWWA Section Conferences. The national-level of this contest is conducted at AWWA’s Annual Conference & Exposition (ACE).

Who is eligible to enter?
Two representatives may participate from each Section. In addition, the local host may send a participant. In the case of more than one local host, only one person may enter from the locality.

How can the Section winner enter the national AWWA Meter Challenge Competition?
Every competitor for the national Meter Challenge Contest must pre-register for the contest using an online registration form. Please register by May 1st so that the competition coordinators can accommodate all competitors.

Must Competitors register for the Conference?
No, it is not necessary for competitors to register for the entire conference unless they plan to attend professional sessions, etc. Complimentary exhibit hall badges will be provided to participants so they can gain admittance to the hall on the day of the contest.

What is the prize?
A plaque or trophy (to be determined by AWWA) will be awarded to each of the 1st-, 2nd-, and 3rd-place winners at the national-level competition. A crystal trophy will be provided by AWWA to the 1st-place winner, and acrylic paperweights for the 2nd- to the 4th-place winners. The 1st place winner will have his or her expenses reimbursed to compete in the following year’s competition at the AWWA Annual Conference, subject to AWWA expense policies.

Will any parts be left out of the buckets?
We do not want to put heavy parts in the bucket because there would be a chance that you could break the other parts when you dump your bucket. Therefore, we will leave the case, bottom plate and the register out of the bucket.

Is your company interested in providing InKind materials for a competition?
Please complete the attached Donor Expression of Interest Form. Completed forms can be sent to the Competition Coordinator.
